Elegant silk chiffon ‘midi’ dress by Max Mara. Lined throughout except for the 3/4 sleeves, which are semi-sheer. Soft black with white dot. Long zip at centre back. Lovely matching brooch is removable.

I’ve been thinking this week about some of Scrapbook’s recurring themes - ‘Italian holiday’ is one of them (possibly my favourite) and this dress falls squarely there. It is light without feeling flimsy and nicely shaped without being fitted. Because it is mainline Max Mara, it is beautifully made and cut. The most unusual feature is the curving seam that runs up and over the hip - the bottom of this pattern piece provides a little flare/volume in the skirt. It is that seam that makes the dress less flexible size-wise than it otherwise might appear because it wants to fit over the curve of the upper hip. (I hope that makes sense).
